Welcome to the Terrace Suite. This is a special feature on the self-guided audio tour, just for those guests who are in the Terrace Suite and can’t get enough local history. The Terrace Suite was built for Mr. Cotton as his primary bedroom and included an ensuite bathroom, one of five original to the house.

To the west and adjacent to this suite was Mrs. Cotton’s room.

Originally, there was a large third room between these two primary rooms, which held the entrance onto the terrace. This third room was shared space between the two primary bedrooms and was a common design in prominent homes of the era.

It was often a dressing room, a sitting room, or just a cozy space to come together and provided semi-private space before retiring to their respective bedrooms.

The east wall of this antechamber was removed to incorporate it into Mr. Cotton’s bedroom in the 1940s, during the university period of Cotton Mansion, to convert this space into a classroom. This was actually a classroom for over 20 years.
